XREAL Aura: The Puck Era Is Here — and Your Charging Setup Decides Everything

XREAL opened Aura pre-orders on October 8, 2026, with units shipping before the holidays. This post covers the confirmed launch facts — and the charging reality every early buyer should plan for.

The next era of headsets doesn't put the computer on your face. XREAL's Aura glasses weigh less than 95 grams because everything heavy — the processor, the storage, and the battery — moved into a small tethered puck that rides in your pocket. It's the same design Samsung and Apple already use, and Meta's glasses follow next spring. The puck era is here. And it means one thing most launch coverage is skipping: your experience now lives or dies by your charging setup.

Quick Answer: XREAL Aura is a pair of sub-95-gram Android XR glasses ($1,279–$1,499) that move the compute and battery into a tethered puck holding a 4,455 mAh battery. Pre-orders are open now and units ship before the holidays in the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. XREAL has not published the puck's charging wattage or a runtime figure — so the smart move is building a USB-C use-while-charging setup before your unit arrives.

Meet Aura: Glasses First, Computer in Your Pocket

Aura is an optical see-through design built on Sony Micro-OLED displays with a 70° field of view — wide for glasses this light. It runs Android XR with Gemini built in, and the audio is Bose-tuned. Because the puck accepts a native DisplayPort input, Aura also works as a display for a laptop or handheld: XREAL pitches up to five virtual monitors floating in front of you. This is a personal screen as much as it is a headset — which is exactly why the power story matters. Screens get used for hours. Batteries don't last hours. More on that below.

The Puck: Where the Battery Actually Lives

Everything Aura needs sits in the puck: the compute, and a 4,455 mAh battery (≈34.8 Wh). The puck doubles as a trackpad, carries a fingerprint sensor, and — per hands-on reporting from the launch — has two USB-C ports.

Two honest unknowns, stated plainly because nobody else is stating them:

  • Charging wattage: not published. XREAL has not released the puck's charging wattage anywhere. Any site quoting you a number today is guessing. When XREAL publishes it, we'll update this post.

  • Runtime: not published. XREAL hasn't given an official battery-life figure yet either.

What we can say without guessing: the puck charges over USB-C, the glasses draw their power from the puck, and a tethered design means your session is only as good as the power feeding the puck. That's not a flaw — it's the design working as intended. It just means the setup around the puck is now part of the product.

Every 2026 Headset Has the Same Problem

Aura isn't an outlier. Look at how this whole class of devices handles power:

The pattern is the story: runtimes cluster around two to three hours, while the headline use — watching a film, working on virtual monitors — runs longer than that. A movie can outlast the battery. Every one of these devices is built to be used while it charges. The only question is whether your setup is ready for that, or whether you'll be hunched next to a wall outlet on a short cable.

The Setup That Fixes It

A use-while-charging setup has two halves:

At the couch (where the movies happen): reach. You need a long, high-rated USB-C cable that gets from the outlet to where you actually sit, without turning into the bottleneck. Our PowerCord 240W braided cables are built for exactly this — desk and couch reach, with a 240W rating that's ours and verified from our own listings, so the cable is never the weak link in the chain.

At the desk (where the puck also becomes your monitor): headroom. A station that can feed the puck, your phone, and your laptop at once. The AK NextG PowerDesk 6-in-1 (105W) and PowerDesk 10 (160W) do that with port and wattage headroom to spare — we're claiming headroom, not a device certification, because that's the honest way to say it: USB-C power in, everything on the desk fed from one station.

On the road: Aura is a travel product — puck in a pocket, glasses on your face, in airports and hotel rooms. The TravelCharge 70 (70W GaN, retractable USB-C cable) is the bag-friendly half of the same setup.
