iPhone Duo: Every New Feature You Need to Know

iPhone Duo launches October 23, 2026, with pre-orders opening Friday, October 16. This post covers the features Apple has confirmed.

Apple's iPhone Duo is the most significant iPhone redesign in years — because it folds. Here's every major new feature, based on what Apple has actually announced.

Quick Answer: iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone: a 7.6-inch inner display that folds down to a 5.4-inch phone, powered by the A20 Pro chip with a dual-battery design, starting at $1,999. Pre-orders open October 16; it arrives October 23.

It Folds: Two Displays, One Phone

Open, the Duo is a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR tablet-sized screen. Closed, it's a 5.4-inch phone. Both displays run ProMotion up to 120Hz, are Always-On, and hit 3,000 nits peak brightness outdoors — and the inner screen's nano-texture finish cuts glare and crease visibility. Both screens share the same 1.41:1 aspect ratio, so apps keep their shape when you fold or unfold. The body is Grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and IP68 water resistance — and at 5.2 mm open, it's the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made (11.3 mm closed, 254 grams).

A20 Pro and a Dual Battery

One chip runs everything: the A20 Pro — the same chip as iPhone 18 Pro — with a vapor chamber for sustained performance and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI. The battery is dual too: two cells work as one system — up to 24 hours of typical mixed use, up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner display.

Cameras: Two 48MP Fusion Lenses

  • Main: 48MP Fusion (f/1.6)

  • Ultra-wide: 48MP Fusion (f/2.2)

  • Zoom: 2x optical-quality crop from the main sensor (digital zoom to 10x) — there is no separate telephoto lens

  • Macro: macro photography from the Ultra Wide camera

  • Video: up to 4K120 Dolby Vision

The foldable shape adds tricks a normal iPhone can't do: rear-camera selfies and Duo Preview let your subject see themselves on the outer screen while you shoot with the rear cameras, Smart Take captures the best moment of a posed shot, and Kid Cue animations hold children's attention. There's also a 12MP Center Stage front camera plus an under-display FaceTime camera.

iOS 27.1 and Siri AI

The Duo ships with iOS 27.1 and puts the big screen to work: Split View runs two apps side by side, and you can save favorite app pairs. StandBy works even when the phone isn't charging. Siri AI — with personal context understanding, writing help, and Visual Intelligence through the new Siri Camera mode — is rolling out in beta, via waitlist, English first (not in the EU at launch), so expect to join a queue rather than get it on day one. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support arrives later this year.

Touch ID Is Back

There's no Face ID on the Duo. Unlocking is Touch ID in the side button — or your Apple Watch.

Charging

The Duo charges wirelessly over MagSafe and Qi2.2 (Qi2 25W) at up to 25W — up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 35W-or-higher adapter. Wired fast charging reaches up to 50% in around 20 minutes with a 60W-or-higher USB-C adapter — AK NextG's own 65W GaN charger clears that bar with room to spare — and a rated USB-C cable to carry the current. The AK NextG TriCharge Pro delivers the Duo's full 25W wireless speed, and its full MagSafe magnet array works with the Duo's alignment magnets from day one.

Connectivity

The Duo is eSIM-only worldwide — there is no physical SIM slot in any market. Apple's C2 modem handles 5G with mmWave support, and the N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.

Price and Availability

iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 (256GB), with 512GB at $2,199, 1TB at $2,599, and 2TB at $3,199 — in Star White and Night Sky. Pre-orders open Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT, and the first units arrive October 23 in more than 70 countries (28 more on October 30). Apple's own Duo Case is $79 and the Duo Folio with Kickstand is $129 — both MagSafe and Qi2 25W compatible.
