How to Set Up Apple Watch Series 12: Step-by-Step Guide
Requires iOS 27. Charge to 50%+ before starting.
Quick Answer: Series 12 setup is mostly automatic. Pair the watch, add your health details, and wear it to sleep. The Health Sensing System samples on its own — there's no calibration to enable — and the Readiness Score (0–10) appears on the watch each morning once it has your data.
Step 1: Pair
Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Hold near your unlocked iPhone 18 Pro. A pairing card appears — tap Continue. Align the iPhone camera with the Watch animation to complete. Takes 3–5 minutes.
Step 2: Add Your Health Details
There's no Health Sensing System calibration to switch on — the sensors (optical, electrical, and environmental) sample automatically from the moment you wear the watch. What you can do is make sure the data is read against the right person: in the Health app on your iPhone, check that your health details — height, weight, date of birth, biological sex — are correct. That's profile setup, not calibration, and it takes a minute.
Step 3: Readiness Score — Nothing to Set Up
Readiness is a watch feature, not something you configure on the phone. Wear Series 12 to sleep — overnight data is a big input — and the watch gives you a 0–10 Readiness Score with one of four labels: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It. It synthesizes sleep, HRV trends, resting heart rate, and recent activity, and it can update during the day as new data comes in. There's no setup screen; your job is just to wear it.
Step 4: Configure Siri
In your iPhone's Siri settings, turn on listening for "Hey Siri." On the watch side, check the Siri settings in the Watch app and make sure Siri is enabled there too.
Step 5: Best Watch Face for Series 12 Data
Use Infograph Modular. Add: Readiness Score, Heart Rate, Activity rings, next calendar event.
Your First Week
Everything core — pairing, apps, activity tracking, heart rate — works from day one. Across your first week of wearing Series 12, including to sleep, the picture sharpens: the watch builds your personal patterns for HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep, and the morning Readiness Score becomes more yours rather than a generic read. No specific day promises — just wear it consistently.
Charging
The AK NextG TriCharge Pro charges Apple Watch Series 12 on its magnetic watch pad (2.5W), alongside iPhone 18 Pro (25W) and AirPods 5 (5W) — all three at the same time — $39.99. On the phone side, that is up to 56% in about 27 minutes.
