7 Siri AI Tricks That Only Make Sense on a Folding iPhone
iPhone Duo launched October 23, 2026 — long enough ago that the fold-only Siri tricks have separated from the generic ones.
We already published the general Siri AI playbook: How to Use the New Siri + ChatGPT on iOS 27: 10 Things to Try Right Now covers email drafting, reminders, photo search, tone rewrites, and routing hard questions to a bigger AI. Every one of those works on any supported iPhone. This post is the opposite list — seven Siri tricks that only exist because the phone folds. Each one was held to a simple test: if it works identically on a regular iPhone, it was cut. For the feature-by-feature background and the beta fine print, start with Siri and AI on iPhone Duo: Everything That Changed.

Quick Answer: The fold gives Siri two screens to work with instead of one. The seven tricks that only make sense on iPhone Duo: reading across a Split View pair, Visual Intelligence with Duo Preview, tent-mode briefings, answers on the cover screen while work stays open inside, side-by-side source checking, Dual Capture FaceTime follow-ups, and saved Split View AI workspaces. Siri AI is still a waitlisted beta — the fine print lives in the background post linked above.

Trick 1: Read Across a Split View Pair
Open Mail on the left of the 7.6-inch inner display and Notes on the right, then ask: "Siri, summarize the email thread and put the deadline in my note." Onscreen Awareness on the Duo spans both panes at once — Siri reads the thread on one side and acts on the document on the other, in a single request, with no app-switching and no repeating yourself.

Why it needs the fold: a regular iPhone shows one app at a time, so onscreen awareness only ever sees the front app. Two live panes on one screen is hardware a slab phone doesn't have.
Trick 2: Visual Intelligence With Duo Preview
Point the Duo's camera at a product, a plant, or a part on your workbench — and let the person across from you watch themselves framed on Duo Preview, the outward display, while you ask Visual Intelligence what you're looking at on the inner screen. You keep the controls; they keep the framing; nobody passes the phone back and forth or crowds around one display.
Why it needs the fold: the second, outward-facing screen only exists because the phone folds. On a regular iPhone, the camera preview and the person being filmed can never face opposite directions at the same time.
Trick 3: Tent-Mode Briefings, No Stand Required
Fold the Duo halfway and it stands on its own — nightstand, kitchen counter, desk. Then: "Siri, brief me." Calendar, reminders, and the morning's headlines read out hands-free while the angled display stays glanceable from across the room. It turns the phone into a self-propping briefing screen for the two moments your hands are busiest: waking up and cooking.

Why it needs the fold: the hinge is the stand. A regular iPhone does StandBy only while it's lying on a charger or propped on an accessory you bought separately — the Duo tents itself, anywhere.
Trick 4: Answers on the Cover Screen, Work Stays Open Inside
With the Duo closed and a Split View workspace open inside, ask Siri for a price check, a conversion, a timer, a quick fact. The answer lands on the cover screen. Your inside layout — the document, the spreadsheet, the two apps mid-task — is never touched, and when you open the phone again it's exactly where you left it.
Why it needs the fold: there is no outside screen on a regular iPhone. Every Siri answer there either takes over your only display or waits behind it.
Trick 5: Audit the Sources Side by Side
Personal context is only useful if you can check it. Ask the Duo a context question — "What did I agree to in Thursday's thread?" — then open the phone: the email, the note, and the calendar entry Siri drew from sit side by side on the big display, so you can verify the answer against its sources before you act on it, not after.
Why it needs the fold: on one slab screen the sources stack — you open them one at a time and hold the answer in your head. The Duo lays the evidence out next to the answer.
Trick 6: Dual Capture FaceTime Follow-Ups
On a FaceTime call, Dual Capture shows both cameras at once — your face on one, what you're showing on the other: a part, a room, a whiteboard. When the call ends, ask: "Siri, summarize what I showed on the call and draft the follow-up." Siri works from both feeds, so the follow-up covers what the other person actually saw, not just what was said.
Why it needs the fold: Dual Capture is a folding-phone camera mode. A regular iPhone picks one direction at a time — face or scene, never both in the same call.
Trick 7: Saved Split View AI Workspaces
The Duo lets you save Split View pairs as one-tap workspaces — we covered saving app pairs in How to Set Up Every New iPhone Duo Feature. Build two around Siri: Briefing (Mail + Calendar) and Research (Safari + Notes). Opening a workspace drops you into a standing context — say "summarize this page into the note" and both halves of the job are already on screen, already where Siri expects them.
Why it needs the fold: saved app pairs are a foldable layout. On a regular iPhone there's nothing to save — one app, one screen, rebuilt from scratch every time.
Powering a Two-Screen Workflow
Tricks that keep two displays lit all day are hard on a battery, and the Duo is a phone you'll charge on a stand or a desk more than in a pocket. The AK NextG TriCharge Pro charges iPhone Duo at its full 25W wireless speed — up to 50% in around 30 minutes — plus Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time. $39.99.

The Bottom Line
None of these seven tricks is a better Siri — it's the same Siri AI with twice the glass. That's the real argument for the $1,999 fold: not a bigger screen for video, but a second screen for the assistant to work on while you keep the first. If your Siri use is mostly the generic list, a regular iPhone loses nothing — start with the 10 Things post instead.
